Don't You Forget About Simple Minds
The original members of Simple Minds [ tickets ] are set to enter a recording studio in June for what they are calling a "nice experiment," according to a press release. It will be the first time in 27 years that Brian McGee, Derek Forbes, Mick McNeil, Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill have worked together. The band plans to spend one week in the studio, hoping to produce at least two new tracks that could be released later in the year. Kerr and Burchill are viewing the reformation--which falls within their 30 year anniversary--as one of many "let's see what happens" ideas that they look forward to working on over the course of the next year. The last time the original band members worked together was on 1981's "Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call" album. The Scottish band, which became popular in the US when their song "Don't You (Forget About Me)" was featured in the hit 1985 movie "The Breakfast Club," also has a short string of UK dates at the end of the year, including a Nov. 29 show at London's Wembley Arena.
